With their deeply blued blades and elegant handles made from Malaysian sal wood, the models in the 1917 collection from Never Unarmed are truly distinctive! These swords all feature the same elegant lines and practical design. The cutlasses in the 1917 series evoke the spirit of adventure of yesteryear, whether in the Wild West or on the high seas. They are suitable for historical re-enactment groups from the 1830s onwards – Western shooters (Cowboy Action Shooters/CAS), re-enactors of American Civil War and naval battles – and even modern military groups.

In 1917, the U.S. Navy decided to replace its 1860 cutlass, which had been in continuous use for 57 years, with a newer version.& nbsp;Never Unarmed's modern interpretation of the iconic 1917 U.S. Navy cutlass is as historically accurate as possible. The 1917 Cutlass features the same curved blade, short clip point tip and distinctive half guard. All metal surfaces have been deeply blued. The sheath with belt loop is also a faithful replica of the original. It is made of high-quality leather and fitted with brass and copper fittings.

The Improved Cutlass from 1917 is identical to the original in every respect, except that a much more effective hand guard has been added. It is made of heavy sheet steel with several ‘relief holes’ and rolled edges and is much more robust than that of the original cutlass, yet offers excellent hand protection and minimal bulk.

1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and relatively low proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material that is free from the brittleness inherent in most higher-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that need to be highly impact-resistant and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
